Orthopaedic Physiotherapy
What is orthopaedic physiotherapy?
Orthopaedic physiotherapy concerns the treatment of functional disorders of the skeletal system and associated structures such as muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia. The complaints are often related to pain and reduced range of motion of these structures. The therapy includes the rehabilitation, also pre- and post-operative, for the dysfunctional part of your body.
Often it concerns the load bearing joints in the body : the hips, knees, feet, back and shoulders. Before an operation, it helps the patient to improve the range of movement and strength which supports the healing/recovery process after an operation. Thereby, it’s a perfect educational preparation for the patient’s post-operative rehabilitation.
We treat the following conditions :
- Tendon and ligament inflammations/injuries in the shoulder, elbow, hand, hip, knee or foot areas ;
- Meniscus problems ;
- Shoulder dislocation, impingement ;
- Bursitis ;
- Neck, back and pelvic complaints ;
- Surgical rehabilitation, for example after a joint replacement;
- General postural problems.
The kind of therapy (manual therapy, therapeutic massage or fasciatherapy), in combination with a program of rehabilitation exercises, will be individualized to your complaints, needs and goals. The rehabilitation program which we design for you will be based on the results of the body examination.
Important parts of the program are, for example, the improvement of muscle strength, recovering the mobility and flexibility, improvement of the proprioception (sense of self-movement and body posture) and support you with functional exercises for a better daily life which you will also learn to do at home.
